Homemade Pizza Night!

Wednesday’s are homemade pizza night at my house.  I have been making homemade pizza for a few years now almost every Wednesday.  I make plain cheese for Sarah, because that’s what she likes, but for Mary and I there is  much more variety.  Hamburg and onion, pepperoni, buffalo chicken, black olive and anchovi and many more.  In the summer I make it on the grill which adds a whole different flavor to the crust.

The one in this picture is a garlic and artichoke heart sauce with a combination or mozzarella and gruyere cheese with sweet onion on top!  Very tasty.

Homemade pizza is great!

The Dangers of COLI

For you business owners or advisors to business owners, beware of COLI.  COLI is Corporate Owned Life Insurance.  If a business owns a life insurance policy issued after August 17, 2006, where the business is the owner and the beneficiary, the death benefit could be taxable.  Unless the employee signed a notice and consent form prior to issuance, the death benefit could be subject to income tax under IRC 101(j).  This mistake could cost the company tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The catch is, the employer cannot go back after the fact and have the form signed.  In other words, they cannot correct the deficiency on the current policy.  The corrective measure is to purcahse a new policy and do the proper Notice and Consent filing, which includes, filing IRS Form 8925 with the corporate tax return.

Don’t let this happen to you!

My Introductory Blog

Well, blogging for me is long overdue.  I am no expert, but I will attempt to make my blogs as interesting as possible.

I live in Glastonbury, CT with my wife Mary.  We have been married for 28, yes that’s 28 years!  We have two children, Katelyn who is 24 and married to my son-in-law, Robert Shea and Sarah who is 21 and is a full time student at Eastern CT State University.  Katelyn and Rob are avid rock and ice climbers.  It scares the heck out of me, but I know they are careful and cautious.  Sarah loves to ski, but unfortunately, we just don’t go as often as we used to.

Mary and I love our two week vacation in Cape Cod every year.  We love the beach and the ocean.  The kids, who used to come with us for the entire two weeks, now visit when they can.

I am an avid golfer and play in a league every Tuesday at 5:00pm.  I’ve been doing that for 20 years.  I try to play Saturday mornings and once in a while during the week.  You would think with all this playing that I would actually be pretty good.  Well, you would think, but…

In the winter I enjoy skiing, but again Mary and I just don’t get to go as often as we used to.

I have been in the life insurance brokerage world for close to 20 years and hope to be able to share insight into that world as well as some interesting happenings in my life.

Please tune in daily as I plan on trying to write often!
